Frequently Asked Questions

You might not have taken part in VR before, or an online escape room, you might just have some general questions. Please look through out FAQ’s here. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, call us and we will be happy to answer any questions you have.

General Questions

An escape room is an entertainment activity for a team of players, in a themed room. The team have to find clues, solve puzzles, riddles and beat challenges to escape the room, all within the time limit.

Good question! For VR adventures, the minimum age is 9/10 and up. 8 and below is unfortunaltey too young as the headsets are adult sized and the games feature height related elements.

Elf school is good for any age but an adult will be needed as the puzzles are tricky.

Otherwise, every game listing on the website has a recommended minimum age rating. Please use these to plan yoru visit.

Ideally, for true immersion, we would lock you in. We wouldn’t throw away the key though… However, due to various considerations, we feel it is best if we don’t physically secure the door. So, you can ‘escape’ at any time, but to get the most from your adventure, consider the door ‘locked’ and work to beat the time.

Escape rooms are for everybody!

They are best enjoyed by a group of friends, colleagues or family. Some younger players may struggle with the nature of some of the clues, so the ideal age for physical rooms is 12 and over. Some rooms may have an age limit due to content but this will be clearly displayed on the room information page.

Younger players are welcome, but should be accompanied by an adult to get the most from the experience.

Our rooms are all private, unless specifically stated (such as during special occassions). Once booked, the party have exclusive use of the room for the duration of the booking.

Once you have selected your preferred adventure, please click “Escape Now’ to go to our online booking facility. All our games are priced at £26 per player.

First, congratulations! Secondly, of course! The rooms are not too physically challenging. Please contact us if you have any concerns or questions.

Generally, the games are designed to be fun, but challenging. How hard you find them depends on your team, how well you work together, and if you spot all the clues you need.

If you’re stuck, the game master is on hand to help with a well-timed clue or hint.

Virtual Reality Escape Rooms

Virtual Reality is a computer generated world. Using just a headset, you are transported to a new, vast world created with mind-blowing graphics. Using the hand controllers, you can pick up objects, scale walls, throw, catch, shoot arrows and so much more. It’s easy to learn and intuitive to use with a level of reality and immersion that is far beyond anything possible in a traditional escape room.

You’re never alone! As part of a team (2 to 4 players), you become the hero and experience in total safety situations that would be far too dangerous or just impossible to live in real life.

Yes! No! This is a whole new entertainment. If you like escape rooms, you’ll love our VR adventures! If you’re a gamer through and through, then you’ll love it too. Never tried VR or escape rooms – try both at the same time as it’s designed to be easy to learn.

Like an escape room, our adventures are designed for teamwork, puzzling and logical thinking. But in a virtual world you can tackle challenges not possible in the real world and find yourself immersed in vast sets.

Our adventures are set in huge environments, not just 1 or 2 rooms, so be prepared for an eye opening escape adventure.

Our virtual reality escape adventures are new, different, exciting, immersive and will leave you buzzing. So, grab your team, step into our bespoke VR pods, and experience our fabulous escape room adventures for yourself.

This is normally people’s biggest worry – but there’s no need! We have tested and choosen superior quality virtual reality escape adv entures that are designed to avoid motion sickness. A common trigger for motion sickness comes from poorly written software, low performance hardware or low frame rates, issues that have been accounted for when choosing our games and designing our hardware. We also stick to games that use teleporting as the locomotion system, rather than scrolling. Scrolling can make people queasy, so we avoid it. All our VR escapes games use teleporting. (if you wan’t to know more about this, give us a call)

Yes, 100%. This is not a video game. It is a collaborative experience made for everyone. If you know how to talk, listen, and press a button on your controller, you have all the skills needed to succeed. The experiences are non-violent and focused on cooperation between players. Excellent for families and groups, perfect for teen birthdays.

Virtual reality escape adventures are made for teams! You can’t escape alone! You must work together, and everyone has a role to play. The key to success is to talk, listen and collaborate. Sometimes, in a traditional escape room, the more dominant personalities can appear overwhelming, but in VR this can be designed out, so that everyone has an equal opportunity to shine. And high fives all round when you’re done! (don’t leave the games master hanging!)

Tricky one…your feet will always touch the floor, you are 100% safe, but your brain might think otherwise. Virtual reality escape adventures can be challenging for people with a strong fear of heights, but they are also an amazingly rewarding achievement. All of our players with a fear of heights have been exhilirated with the experience and they have all escaped to tell the tale.

If you’re worried about this, speak to your games master and we will do all we can to help you through.

The Animus is a physical device that enables the genetic memories of a users DNA to be accessed and relived.

It is a central aspect of Ubisoft’s highly successful Assassin’s Creed games franchise, that 2 of our games are based on. In the games, the main antagonists use the Animus for dubious purposes.

At Sneaky Dog Escapes, the animus is a high quality Vive virtual reality headset with some useful inhouse designed extras, and it allows you to step into a truly immersive Assasin’s Creed universe.

This is a tough one. Access to the VR Suite is direclty from street level and the game can be played in seated mode as the hand controllers allow for motion input.

However, full hand and arm motion is required, and you must be a minimum of 120cm tall, so the suitability of these experiences depends on the nature of your mobility restriction

The facilities are on the lower ground floor and accessed via stairs or the rear entrance to the building. Unfortunately, due to the age of the building and space constraints, the facilities are not wheelchair friendly.

Please do call us to discuss your requirements, and we will be happy to assist. Carers go free.

A note on glasses. For our VR games, if possible, please consider wearing contact lenses instead of glasses, should you need them.

Glasses can be worn and normally fit inside the faceseal of the VR mask, unless you sport the type of eyeware normally found gracing the face of Elton John, but many people find the experience of wearing the VR mask more comfortable without glasses.

If you wear glasses we will do all we can to make your experience as awesome as possible.

Your Visit

Unfortunatley, due to the nature of the building, not all of our rooms are accessible to everybody. However, our VR suite does have street level access, and our games are playable seated.

Please do call to discuss your individual requirements and we will do our best to assist your enjoyment of our games.

We regret to say that the bathroom facilities are not wheelchair friendly.

Our rooms are all private, unless specifically stated (such as during special occassions). Once booked, the party have exclusive use of the room for the duration of the booking.

There are no special clothing requirements, so we suggest you just wear whatever makes you happy, even if that is full fancy dress, evening wear or a tele tubby outfit!

Everything you need to play our games will be in the room, so there is no need to bring anything with you. Phones and cameras are prohibited in our games.

We are sorry to say that alcohol is not permitted on the premises, and playing the game whilst under the influence of alcohol may lessen the experience for you. We suggest you save the celebrating until after you have escaped.

As our games are booked for a set time and date so we allovate resources once a game is booked. We will reschedule games free of charge when notified at least 96 hours prior to the booking time. Notification later than 96 hours carries a 25% rescheduling fee.

Should you need to reschedule, please call us and we will do all we can to assist you.

Whilst there isn’t a prize, you may regain your freedom.

You may also attain some of the following : a sense of achievement, an insight into how your team works, bragging rights, a couple of funny stories, some time away from the endlessly busy modern world and the chance to unplug from social media and endless spam emails.

Each room has a maximum number of players. However, if you wish to add a player, and there is room, you simply need to pay for the additional player before the game starts. You can amend your booking online or call us.

Ideallly, arriving 5 to 10 minutes before your booking is due to start will allow plenty of time for bathroom breaks, a chat with the game master, for the team to get into the mindset, etc.

Getting to our rooms is quite simple. There is a car park (free for 2 hours) right behind our site, two more within a 3 minute walk, and Woolston train station is less than a 5 minute walk.

Our Latest Review!

Absolutely fabulous experience! The attention to detail was second to none and the puzzles were well considered and varied. Enough room for a group of six to work comfortably and more rooms to explore than any previous escape rooms completed.

The host was brilliant and gave enough subtle hints to keep us moving without giving away too much. Definitely the best in Southampton and possibly the south of England. When you have a 90 minute limit it makes such a pleasant change to actually need the whole time. Was absolutely worth every penny!
